Set back a ¼ mile from the village road, our secluded park stretches down to the riverside. Here boating folk mingle with bird-life and ramblers on the Angle's Way long distance footpath and share panoramic views of cattle grazing on marsh pastures dotted with distant windmills.

The park is well above flood level and laid out with over two hundred species of trees and shrubs to give all our customers peace and quiet in a beautiful setting. Because our free house and restaurant, The Fisherman's, is separate from the park at the riverside, the occasional pub barbecue or disco does not intrude. So your place on the park is ideal for just doing nothing and many do. But our pub is also a popular place for watching sunsets or boats go by and Broadland's tallest windmill at the Berney Arms is visible from there.

Leisurely exploration doesn't have to mean getting into your car because Burgh Castle riverside offers you plenty of choices on foot or by boat and our friendly staff will talk you to you about them. Here are some of the best.

Exploring on foot

The rivers Waveney and Yare join Breydon Water half a mile downstream from the park. It is an easy stroll there to view the ceaseless activities of all kinds of birds, whether in the water or on tidal mudflat or marsh. A new reed fen bird reserve also sits at the foot of the extensive and impressive walls of the Roman fort "Gariannonum". The fort is yet another panoramic viewpoint, popular with artists, photographers and the occasional picnickers. Fishing in the river is possible, but better coarse fishing is to be found within walking distance at two private lakes in the village. Our reception features interpretation displays of all these local features, together with guides to jogging, walking and cycling routes in the neighbourhood.

Exploring by boat

An evening sunset sail to Breydon Water can be both an artist's dream and a wildlife safari experience, or a few minutes cruising brings you alongside the restored Berney Arms windmill and museum. A leisurely sail to a favourite lunch-time watering hole and back is another popular option. Our marina is a safe, sheltered base from which you and your boat can explore the whole of Broadland.
